Mi Watch from Xiaomi is a full-featured smartwatch that delivers fitness, activity, and lifestyle insights powered by the Firstbeat analytics engine. It marks the first collaboration between Xiaomi and Firstbeat. Notably, the Mi Watch will be the first commercially available device to incorporate the Firstbeat Sleep Solution, a trio of complementary features crafted to help you document, understand, and ultimately improve your sleep with the goal of giving you the energy you need to succeed.

Technically impressive and feature rich, the Mi Watch is designed to premium flagship smartwatch specifications. An edge-to-edge, bezel-free design ensures that the bright, square, 1.78-inch AMOLED screen takes center stage under the protection of Corning Gorilla glass. An aluminum alloy frame and ceramic back complete a design focused on standing up to the demands and conditions of everyday life.

A limited edition of the MiWatch will be produced with an initial run of 30,000 units. These limited-edition watches incorporate premium materials like sapphire glass, a stainless-steel frame with a ceramic back, and a stainless-steel band.

The Mi Watch is the first smartwatch to use the Snapdragon 3100 4G for superior performance, power management and integrated connectivity. The MiWatch also boasts and impressive array of sensors and other connectivity options, including a 3rd generation optical heart rate sensor, 6-axis accelerometer, compass, barometer, and a trio of positioning systems (GPS, Galileo, and BeiDou)

Lifestyle – Stress, Recovery and Body Resources

Stress is your body’s natural response to the challenges of life and environment. All-day Stress tracking with the Mi Watch means you can keep tabs on your stress and recovery levels throughout the day. Heart rate data captured by the onboard sensor reveals how your heart beats from one moment to the next. Known as heart rate variability (HRV), this phenomenon when smartly analyzed becomes a window through which activity occurring within your autonomic nervous system can be observed.

Finding the right balance in life can be a challenge. The Body Resources screen helps you make smart decisions guided by your current energy levels. Your resources decrease as you experience stress and exert yourself during physical activity. Restful moments and relaxation replenish your resources during the day, and not surprisingly the best opportunity for restoration comes when you are asleep.

Scientific Fitness Tracking

Each time you go out for a walk or run with your Mi Watch with GPS and heart rate monitoring active, it automatically detects how well your heart, lungs, circulatory system, and muscles all work together to keep you moving. This information comes to you in the form of a single number, your VO2max, that reports your cardiorespiratory fitness level. The higher your VO2max, the fitter you are.

You can also keep tabs on your Fitness Age, a relatable and motivational interpretation of VO2max.

A higher VO2max fitness level also typically means you are less affected by stressful experiences and benefit from increased resilience, meaning that you bounce back faster from similar challenges.

Understanding and Managing your Workouts

Xiaomi supports ten different sports modes, across a variety of indoor and outdoor activities. Each workout you record is analyzed in real-time to reveal the role it plays in your training and development.

The scale for Aerobic Training Effect goes from 0.0 to 5.0, where 0.0 means that training session has no aerobic impact on your body and 5.0 indicates overload. Generally, you should avoid overloading, and extreme efforts require special attention to recovery. (Click to enlarge)

Aerobic Training Effect feedback (0.0-5.0) updates during your workouts to show when your efforts are challenging enough to improve your cardiorespiratory fitness, measured in terms of VO2max. You can also see when you need to push yourself harder to make a difference and when overdoing it might be ultimately counterproductive in the big picture.

To help you maximize the benefits of your hard work, Recovery Time Advisor starts a countdown timer at the end of each workout that shows when you will be fully recovered and truly ready to benefit from your next hard, fitness-improving type workout.

Introducing the Firstbeat Sleep Solution

With its game-changing ambitions and powerful capabilities, the MiWatch offers a golden opportunity to introduce a brand-new collection of Firstbeat powered insights to the world. The Firstbeat Sleep Solution brings a variety of perspectives together to answer all your sleep questions. It effortlessly and reliably documents your sleep, interprets the results, and delivers personalized insights crafted to help you sleep better based on facts from your own life.

The process begins with Sleep Detection, which relies on a combination of movement data, heart rate, heart rate variability, respiration rate (derived from heartbeat data), and time of day to recognize when you go to bed, when you fall asleep, and when you wake up. Sleep latency, meaningful sleep stages (REM, light, deep), and minor awakenings are recorded along the way.

During the Sleep Analysis stage, your sleep is interpreted to reveal how well it prepared you to face the challenges ahead. This is achieved by first comparing the duration and structure of your sleep to expert recommendations, like those provided by the National Sleep Foundation and others. The second dimension considered is a measure of restorative quality, or restorative power. This is produced using an analysis of heart rate variability data interpreted for the purpose of assessing the presence and degree of dominance of parasympathetic activity occurring within your autonomic nervous system.

A sleep score (0-100) accompanied by an explanative account of contributing factors is calculated based on these elements. This means that you can see, for example, how a shorter night with good restorative properties stacks up against a longer night punctuated with multiple interruptions. You will also be able to see when your sleep quality improves or deteriorates due to stress, activity patterns, illnesses, alcohol consumption, and other known sleep quality influencers.

Looking to improve your sleep, or to find some extra energy for the day ahead? Once you go to bed, there is little that can be done, but what you do during the day can have a profound effect.  Your daily activity levels, workouts, stress patterns and evening routine all influence on your ability to fall asleep easily and how well you sleep once you do.

Sleep Coach provides the final piece of the Firstbeat Sleep Solution. Real-world insight gleaned from your own life and activities is used to offer personalized guidance that will help you sleep better at night. This comes in the form of tips that let you know when, for example, when your sleep quality was negatively impacted by the intensity of your evening activities, or when a more regular bedtime might be in order.
