Firstbeat is delighted to announce a renewed three-year partnership with the German Ice Hockey Federation (Deutscher Eishockey-Bund, DEB), continuing a successful collaboration that supports both elite and youth athletes across the men’s and women’s national programs.
The partnership covers the DEB’s top teams, including the men’s and women’s national team, along with male youth teams at U16, U18, and U20 levels.
Since 2015, Firstbeat has played an important role in preparing Germany’s ice hockey talent for the world stage, with physiological data-driven insights supporting performances at major tournaments such as the Olympic Games and the Ice Hockey World Championships.
On the partnership, Karl Schwarzenbrunner, DEB National Coach for Education and Science, says: “With this new agreement, we are excited to further integrate Firstbeat’s physiological insights into both our senior and youth national teams.
For us, the ability to monitor and manage players’ workload is not only crucial for preparing athletes for the intensity of international competition, but also an essential part of building a sustainable development pathway for our younger players.
By combining sport science and education, we ensure that data-driven training methods directly support the long-term growth of German ice hockey.”

Through the new agreement, DEB performance staff will have access to Firstbeat’s Premium+ software, providing advanced physiological analytics, customizable reporting, and seamless data collection via the Firstbeat Sports app and sensors. This enables coaches and sport scientists to monitor individual responses to training, optimize recovery, and make informed decisions to enhance long-term athlete development.
“We are proud to extend our long-term partnership with the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB), an organization renowned for its commitment to performance excellence through a modern technology-driven approach,” said Christoph Rottensteiner, Manager of Professional Sports Sales EMEA at Firstbeat.
“Over the past decade, the DEB has been a key customer for our solutions, helping us grow significantly within German ice hockey—from youth programs to elite men’s and women’s teams.
By equipping DEB teams with our latest Premium+ features and platform, we are confident that players and staff will gain deeper insights, make smarter decisions, and ultimately enhance performance both on and off the ice, even during club-level training.
This ensures that the national teams are optimally prepared in terms of load and recovery management for national camps, supporting the achievement of their ambitious goals in upcoming major tournaments.”
