”The average age of Euromaster employees is 43 years and app. 95% of them are men. Tire installation is mainly fairly heavy physical work that includes a lot of lifting, twisting and crouching. Thus, various back problems are common, and a sufficient level of physical fitness is required in the job. The work is also very seasonal. In the spring and fall, during the tire-changing season, the work days are very long, up to 12 hours and everyone’s work is very busy and can be very stressful.”
Euromaster wants to invest in its employees’ mental and physical health and well-being by promoting a healthy lifestyle. This way, the employees are able to give their best effort towards productive work. Firstbeat Lifestyle Assessment was an excellent tool for determining the important emphasis areas and increasing the employees’ own motivation.
Some employees told that the Lifestyle Assessment gave them the needed motivation to get physically active, lose weight or adopt other healthy lifestyle principles. It was specifically this kind of motivation and changes that the employer was looking for as well. Being able to start using the web-based Fitness Coach right after the Assessment has helped many employees to follow-up their progress.
“The employees felt that the results of the Lifestyle Assessment were very interesting. The Assessment brought out many helpful facts and pointers, for example about sleep habits. One employee told that with the Firstbeat measurement, he noticed that his best recovery occurs at around 5-6 am. Thus, very early wake-ups are not ideal for him. Another person recognized that staying up late is not good for him because his best recovery occurs in the evening, right after going to sleep. All participants of the Lifestyle Assessment received a lot of beneficial information about physical activity and its fitness and health benefits.”
Participant Feedback to Firstbeat
”Euromaster employees have received the Lifestyle Assessment and feedback meetings very well. They have become more interested in their personal well-being and appreciate the fact that the employer is interested in it as well.
Based on the personal feedback discussions, it was discovered that several people had recently lost quite a bit of weight, stopped (or reduced) smoking, and increased their physical activity.
A few people who had not yet done the assessment admitted that they had reservations about ”these kinds of measurements and evaluations”, but in the feedback meeting they got interested and asked if they could do the measurement after all.
The Internet-based Firstbeat.net (Fitness Coach) got several people positively ”hooked”. They mentioned that this program increased their motivation to be physically active. Several employees upgraded their physical activity status from ”occasional” to ”active” during their 2-month period with the Fitness Coach. Out of app. 300 people, 120 signed into Firstbeat.net and half of them are actively using the program.”
