Aito Savings Bank’s strength lies in playing as one team, and this was something they wanted to further reinforce amid the biggest transformation in the history of the Savings Bank Group, says HR Manager, Nina Tala. The Firstbeat well-being initiative was launched at the company in autumn 2025. Shared enthusiasm, data-driven insights, and learning together have made well-being a genuinely collective matter across the entire organization.
Why did you want to introduce Firstbeat to the whole organization?
“Many people already use different devices and methods to monitor their own well-being, but we wanted to turn it into a shared journey. Firstbeat enables collective learning and sharing insights. Well-being is not only the employer’s responsibility – it’s a whole in which everyone can influence through their own choices. We wanted to give people more tools to understand what their own situation really looks like.
“I tried Firstbeat myself a couple of years ago, and the measurement experience was truly eye-opening. That sparked the idea that this could work for us too. Now the timing was right for our organization, as we are in the middle of a major business development initiative within the Savings Bank Group. We considered what it would take for us to carry the project through successfully, and several key themes emerged: focusing on what matters most – our customers – as well as seamless team spirit and learning together. All of these become easier during change when we take care of ourselves in our everyday lives. And everything aligns beautifully with the perspective that Firstbeat offers.”
Who is Firstbeat offered to?
“Measurement is available to everyone. We have just under 160 employees, and already during the first registration round, more than 120 people signed up. That shows how enthusiastically the staff embraced the opportunity.
“The excitement was especially sparked by a live session from Firstbeat’s leading specialist, Jaakko Kotisaari, during our staff day – it resonated perfectly with our team. Jaakko was funny, appropriately relaxed, and at the same time knowledgeable. People were eager to learn and very engaged. Right after the session, many more participants joined in.”
What was your own experience with Firstbeat like?
“I also took part again when the project started because I wanted to see what my everyday life really looks like. The result wasn’t as good as it was a couple of years ago when I paid more conscious attention to things. It was a good reminder that well-being requires continuous attention and that even small choices matter. The measurement was an interesting experience. Now, with our shared measurements, we can experiment and see what impacts our well-being. The 12-month period truly supports learning rather than just living an optimally curated life.
“The measurement confirmed my own observations in a concrete way. Even though everyone knows what they should do, the data makes it more real – and that makes you believe it. I’m a data-driven person myself, and the results make it easier to learn about my own well-being.”
How has the staff received Firstbeat?
“Some were already familiar with Firstbeat, and for others the measurement was new. It was important to explain openly what kind of information is collected and how it is used. The reception has been very positive. People have appreciated the opportunity to receive this year-long benefit and, above all, to learn more about themselves.
“At the organizational level, the goal is clear: well-being employees are the foundation of everything. We cannot tell anyone what to do, but we can offer information that helps each person make better choices.”
What’s next?
“Our first collective measurement period is currently underway, and the theme is recovery during the workday. In November, we will host a second lecture on the same topic, and later we will review the measurement results together. We carry out the measurements across the whole company and encourage teams to measure together and test different practices in their daily routines.
“Over the course of the year, the measurements and themes will be deepened, and we will also delve further into needs that arise from the measurement data. The goal is for well-being insights to turn into practical actions and strengthen our collective resilience – with the power of the whole staff.
“We now have the right ingredients to support employee well-being.”
