Upcoming Webinar
Sleep, Neurodivergence and Mental Health
In this insightful and timely webinar, renowned neurophysiologist Dr. Nerina Ramlakhan shares the depth of her academic, professional, and personal experience in helping individuals achieve better sleep – particularly those who are neurodivergent or identify as sensitive sleepers.
Dr. Ramlakhan coined the term “sensitive sleeper” in the 1990s after noticing a link between heightened sensory sensitivity and poor sleep. In recent years, she has recognised the growing relevance of this work to neurodivergent individuals. Combining her academic expertise and lived experience, she offers a unique approach to help individuals who are suffering from sleep problems and the mental health problems that can arise as a result of chronic poor sleep and inability to rest.
Today, as the world becomes increasingly fast-paced and overstimulating, the need for her work has become even greater.
In this webinar, we explore:
- The neurodivergent nervous system and sleep
- Typical sleep problems that can come with neurodivergence, reduced melatonin levels, dysautonomia, disrupted circadian rhythms
- Understanding sensitivity, sensory processing – sights, sounds, smells, touch
- Introduction to a toolkit for calming and regulating the nervous system (working with Polyvagal Theory)
- The way forward – Sleep as medicine and the gift of heightened sensitivity
The free webinar is hosted by Tiina Hoffman, Firstbeat’s Master Trainer and Exercise Physiologist and ideal for wellness professionals interested in the science of sleep and anyone keen to learn more about the topic.
