Firstbeat Sports App

Jyväskylä, Finland, May 14, 2018 — Firstbeat Sports is excited to announce a transformative update to the Firstbeat Sports iPhone app. The app is available immediately to all Firstbeat Sports users via the Apple App Store.

As of April 2020, the Firstbeat Sports Live app is now available for iPhone and iPad users. This update allows athletes to record, upload and sync their own workout and training data to the Firstbeat Sports Cloud remotely when using the Firstbeat Sports Sensor, streamlining the data collection process for coaches.

As of November 2020, the Firstbeat Sports Live app* for athletes is now available for Android devices.

The Firstbeat Sports app was first introduced in 2016 and was originally designed to help collect performance readiness data. The Firstbeat Sports app gave athletes the ability to perform Firstbeat’s 3-minute Quick Recovery Test (QRT) first thing in the morning, before training, on the road, or in the privacy of their own homes. This information plays a vital role in both training prescription optimization and injury risk management.

The updated app delivers even more power and flexibility, transforming the athlete’s iPhone into a fully-featured training monitor with fitness detection capabilities. Athletes can also use the Firstbeat Sports app to access their own personal training and recovery data from team sessions.

To access training data and take advantage of the new personal training monitoring capabilities, the athlete simply installs the Firstbeat Sports app on their iPhone and logs in using their Firstbeat Sports credentials. Recording training data requires pairing a Bluetooth chest belt heart rate monitor to the phone.

Real-time intensity and training load accumulation can be seen during the session. When used to record training runs, pace and distance information is also available. At the end of the session, recorded data is automatically synchronized with the team’s Firstbeat Sports cloud database where it becomes part of the athlete’s overall training profile.

The combination of insight captured during team sessions with the Firstbeat Sports Monitor and remotely recorded data from the app helps complete the training picture and allows expert coaches and trainers to construct a more robust, comprehensive physiological profile for each individual player with the goal of optimizing training prescriptions, reducing injuries, and helping them reach their potential.

Automatic VO2max Fitness Detection – Cardiorespiratory fitness is essential to athlete and team success. Running with the Firstbeat Sports app provides easy access to current fitness levels with the help of Firstbeat’s automatic VO2max detection capabilities. Fitness levels are updated during any outdoor run longer than 10 minutes with GPS activated.

The ability to see fitness levels change over time offers insight into the effectiveness of training activities, recovery schedules, and a chance to enhance guidance based on objective performance data.

Training Feedback Overview – Activity sessions (runs, cycling, gym sessions, etc) recorded with the Firstbeat Sports app provide the athlete with most of the same real-time training intensity and load variables as team sessions recorded with Firstbeat Sports Monitor. TRIMP, Training Effect (Aerobic and Anaerobic), EPOC, and Energy Expenditure can all be seen directly in the app.
